There's something about Hoarding that I see people getting wrong all the time...
I often see people confusing Hoarding for something else: Diogenes Syndrome...
So, what is Diogenes Syndrome? And what is the difference?
Diogenes Syndrome...
.. is a disorder characterized by self-neglect, domestic squalor, apathy, compulsive hoarding of garbage and more importantly lack of shame.
And Hoarding Disorder...
Is a mental condition and form of addiction characterised by the compulsive collecting, attachment and keeping of things that are not needed, or have no value.
Diogenes Syndrome is thought to affect 0.05% of people aged 60+, while Hoarding Disorder is thought to affect up to 6% of our population....
.. That is just over 4.1 million people in the UK alone.
